Virgin Atlantic started flights from Glasgow (Scotland) to Orlando (Florida) on the 23rd June 2007. A live Scottish band at Glasgow International airport entertained those watching and waiting for the inaugural flight. Direct Flights from Glasgow to Orlando will be flown at selected times of year, to coincide with demand. Virgin Atlantic will operate the flights with a Boeing 747-400.

Randolph Fields and Allan Hellary set up Laker Airways, with the intention to start flights between London and the Falkland Islands; but this idea comes to naught, when it is realised that the runway on the Falkland Islands is too short. Plan B to fly between London Gatwick and New York JFK also doesn't get off the ground, but Plan C to fly between London Gatwick and Newark Liberty International Airport does and Laker Airways gets going. |
